Election Procedures

There are two ways we have done this in the past – the short way and the long way.

You will obviously need to change the names of the participants and elected officials.

Since the Bylaws mandate a Secret Ballot, you will first have to remove that requirement for all un-contested positions.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Jerry:  Chairwoman Willard, as chair of the Nominating Committee, I would like to put forth the nominees for office for the term xxxxx through xxxxx.  But, before I do that, I move that we dispense with a secret ballot for each office that is not contested.
Gina:  Is there a second?
Carl:  I second Jerry’s motion.
Gina:  All in support of the motion; i.e. dispensing with a secret ballot for each office that is not contested, signify by saying “aye.”  All opposed say “nay.”  Hearing no nays I declare that the motion has passed unanimously.

Obviously this only works when there is only one slate of candidates an no one else want to be in office. This is usually true 99% of the time.

LONG WAY

NOTE – the below is unusual, but shows how we handle two people for the same position.
Jerry:  We have two candidates for President, Matt Ramshaw and Shreya Gopal.  Carl Hendrickson, the current club parliamentarian, and I have flipped a coin to see who would put whose name in nomination.
Jerry:  [Read Introduction] For President, I nominate and move that we elect Matt Ramshaw.
Gina:  Is there a second?
Carl: [Read Introduction] For President, I nominate and move that we elect  Shreya Gopal.
Gina:  Is there a second?
Gina:  Are there any other nominations?  Are there any other nominations?  Are there any other nominations?  Hearing none, I declare that nominations for President are now closed.  At this time, we shall have a two minutes presentation from Matt Ramshaw.  [At Conclusion of Matt’s Presentation] At this time, we shall have a two minute presentation from Shreya Gopal.
Gina:  You may use the paper distributed by Jerry Paul as a ballot for club President.  Jerry will cast the tie-breaking vote if necessary.  When you have cast your ballot, fold it and hold up your ballot and Jerry will collect and tabulate.
