I just came across a study by http://www.scienceofpeople.com/ted/ and they investigated why some Ted videos went viral while others had few viewings.
The main thrust of the piece was that it wasn’t what you said, but how you said it that is important.
Here are some questions to ask yourself.
- What are you doing in the first seven seconds to capture the attention of the audience?
- Are you smiling?
- Are you using lots of hand gestures?
- Are you reading your script or talking from your heart?
- More vocal variety!
Dr. Albert Mehrabian’s book Silent Messages had the same conclusion and is worth reading.
