Tumminia ( 2 minny ah)
I was talking to a Missouri journalism student and he told me that one of the things he was taught was to use pronouncers to help in the pronunciation of difficult names. You take the name and break it down into its phonetic components and put those components into parenthesis. Here’s an example.
His last name is Tumminia.
He puts a pronouncer next to his name like this:
Tumminia ( 2 minny ah )
If you re the Toastmaster or have to introduce anyone, make sure you get the correct pronunciation from the person and then use a pronouncer to make sure you get it right when you introduce them.
