CORRESPONDENCE & ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Correspondence forwarded by Rich Ullrich, regarding the 2009 Fall Conference:

In Clayton, Missouri Friday November 20th &
Saturday November 21st.

As the registrations continue to pour in, I wanted to take a moment to let you know what is happening at the conference-

•      Contest:  There are 5 contestants for the Table Topics Contest on Friday night and 5 for the Humorous Speech Contests on Saturday night. The contestants are from all 5 Divisions in District 8.  Your support is needed for each contestant. Suggested requirement: to laugh loudly and clap often…

•      Baskets:  there are 19 baskets committed for the silent auction.  Various themes include ‘white elephant gifts’, ‘chocolate’, ‘games’ and ‘Missouri Wines’. Many thanks to the clubs who put their best into bringing us these wonderful donations

•      Silent Auction: please bring your cash and/or check book. The baskets are a wonderful way of saying you care and can be given as a gift to someone special or how about a treat for yourself? The baskets will be at the bookstore location. Stop by to place your bid

•      Educational Sessions:  The educational sessions are the members choice. The selection for this conference were the top choices from the survey that was completed by members in District 8 as the educational sessions they would most likely attend.  Put your vote to use and attend on November 21st

•      Conference times:  Friday Registration will open at 6:00 pm.  The complete schedule of times will be posted on the District 8 website at http://dist8tm.org  shortly

•      Hospitality Room:  after the contests on both Friday night and Saturday night, please join us in a little bit of socializing. This is a perfect opportunity to get to know Toastmasters around the district and maybe make a few new friends or get reacquainted with someone you haven’t seen in a while.  The snacks and drinks are on us

•      Roast:  Don’t forget the roast of our Immediate Past District Governor Tony Gartner!!  Come see what wonderful memories we have to share. If you’ve had the opportunity to get to know Tony, then you will have many wonderful memories as well

Thanks,

Kat Mokriakow
2009 Fall Conference Chair

Received by secretary from Max Kaiser on 11/11, prior to the meeting:
SCTM member and US Air Force veteran Max Kaiser noted the upcoming charity benefit this coming SATURDAY evening (Nov. 13th)  for the new FISHER HOUSE at Jefferson Barracks VA Hospital campus, whose proceeds will help fund construction of the new short-term veterans’ spousal and family residential facility at the Jefferson Barracks VA Hospital Complex.  The gala starts at 5 p.m. at the Sheraton West Port Hotel, with free admission featuring hors d’oevres, music and games.  (Parking is free).

Proceeds from the event will be used for the new FISHER HOUSE complex, which will offer spouses and family members of patients in both VA hospitals in St. Louis short-term lodging during the veteran/family member’s medical care.  (Construction of the complex is now underway).

For more info, consult http://www.fisherhouseinstl.org on GOOGLE search engine.
