Meeting Minutes January 8, 2025

Meeting Theme:  Overcoming Challenges

Meeting Location: Sunset Hills Community Center

Call to Order:  6:30 p.m.

Presiding Officer:  J.D. Perper

Guests: April Garrett, Tina Sappington, Allison Gildehaus, Nick Wall, Brian Scarpase, and Sarah Dahm, Div A Director (Installing Officer).

Minutes:  Had been sent out and there were no changes.

Officer Reports:

President:  J.D. Perper

VPE:  Debbie Young:  Presented Educational Award to Mike Boles for Level 1 of Motivational Strategies.

VPM:  Amy Kelemen

VPPR:  Julie Zeitler

Treasurer:  Jim Salih

Sergeant-at-Arms:  Vicky Kolaks

Secretary:  Brent Stewart

Unfinished Business:  Division A Director Sarah Dahm Installed the Officers for the January 1 through June 30, 2025 term.

She thanked the current officers and discharged them from their duties.

She charged the new officers with their task to keep the Club strong, dedicated to helping people from all walks of life speak in an effective manor, listen with sensitivity and think creatively. 

She installed the officers as follows explaining the duties of each officer:

Sergeant-at-Arms:  Vicky Kolaks

Treasurer:  Jim Salih

Secretary:  Julie Zeitler

Vice President-Membership:  J.D. Perper

Vice President-Education:  Debbie Young

President:  Erin Kutell

She then reminded the members of their duty and had the members pledge their support for the Club

Newly installed President Erin Kutell then presided over the meeting and asked if Sarah as District Officer had any comments she would like to make.

Sarah noted that as Division Director it is her goal to have as many Distinguished Clubs as she can in the Division.  She noted that South County has already achieved 9 of the 10 goals for Distinguished Club and after we get our officers trained will have achieved all 10.  No other Club in the Division has achieved this so far this year.  She thanked us for being such a strong Club.

Erin noted that as a member who had just returned to South County Toastmasters during the last 6 months how reassuring it was to see how well the Club is run and managed.

Committee Reports:  Jim Salih announced that Youth Leadership had started last night and that they have 6 participants ages 10-16.

Unfinished Business:  Jim Salih reminded us of the Speech and Evaluation Contest on January 29.  So far, we have 4 contestants for the Speech Contest and 3 contestants for the Evaluation Contest.  Jim Bubash will give the pattern speech for the Evaluation Contest.

New Business:

Correspondence and Announcements:  Brent Stewart announced that former longtime Club member Carl Hendrickson has been in the hospital suffering from pneumonia and has gone into hospice.  He is at home and is having people come in.  Brent passed around a card for members to write notes on and sign.
